In the recent case of In re Olin Corporation the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board affirmed the examining attorney’s refusal to register the OLIN mark for a number of chemicals in Class 17 on the grounds that the mark was primarily merely a surname and lacked acquired distinctiveness under Section 2(f) of the US Trademark Act.
