Venezuela

Venezuela is now a member of the MercadoComún del Sur (MERCOSUR), along withArgentina, Brasil, Paraguay (still in processof reincorporation) and Uruguay. The mainimplication of this development for IP mattersis the discussions on the applicability of theProtocol on Harmonisation of IP Norms inMERCOSUR for Trademarks, Indications ofSource and Appellations of Origin Althoughalready approved, the protocol has been ratifiedby only two of the member states (Paraguayand Uruguay). Venezuela has not yet made anyofficial statement confirming the applicabilityof the protocol.
