Sound marks were introduced by the Trademark Law, which came into effect on May 1 2014. Almost two years later, the first sound mark has now been approved and published. As of January 2016, 450 sound marks have been accepted, with the Chinese Trademark Office said to have issued the examination criteria for sound marks on a trial basis.
