A World Intellectual Property Organisation panel has unanimously denied the transfer of the domain name ‘gorgonzola.city’ registered under the new generic top-level domain ‘.city’, despite being identical to the complainant’s trademark. This decision highlights the fact that owning a trademark – even if it is well known – may not be sufficient to obtain the transfer of a domain name, regardless of whether it reproduces such trademark.
