Protection of Euro 2012 intellectual property stepped up

Ukraine
As another significant football event – the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2012), which will be held in Ukraine and Poland - approaches, the protection of intellectual property relating to the championship is at the foreground in Ukraine.

On June 10 2010 several trademarks relating to Euro 2012 were registered, including the slogan “Creating history together” in English, Ukrainian and Russian. The logo, name and trophy of Euro 2012 have already been registered as trademarks. Therefore, the Ukrainian Patent Office has now registered 12 trademarks that are, or will be, used in connection with Euro 2012 in Ukraine. The official mascot of Euro 2012 and other trademarks pertaining to the championship are expected to be registered in the near future.

These trademarks have been registered under the accelerated procedure, as prescribed by the Law of Ukraine on the Organization and Implementation of the Final Part of the European Football Championship of 2012, which sets forth general provisions on the registration and use of UEFA's intellectual property in Ukraine (for further details please see "Draft law on Euro 2012 Football Championship approved").

Furthermore, a public database was created on the official website of Ukrainian Patent Office in order to raise awareness of the intellectual property of UEFA (and of its commercial agents) that is protected in Ukraine.
