New lists of well-known marks issued

The Chinese trademark authorities have published two lists granting well-known status to a total of 73 marks. These add to the lists published in February and June 2004 and include the first Hong Kong mark (GOLDLION & device) to be granted such status (see Another 26 marks gain well-known status and Forty-three marks receive well-known status under new rules).

Of the 62 marks on the first list, 58 are recognized in enforcement actions and the remaining in trademark opposition proceedings. Only five are foreign marks.

While all the marks on the first list are recognized by the Trademark Office of the State Administration of Industry and Commerce, the second list of 11 marks is the first batch recognized by the Trademark Review and Adjudication Board.

Together with the previous two lists, plus a recent pronouncement granting the HONEYWELL mark well-known status, a total of 22 foreign marks have gained recognition:
