Innovation capture – what to look for and how to capture it effectively (on demand)

An innovative business needs to understand what to look for and how to effectively capture innovations when they are created. We will look at how to streamline your innovation capture pipeline, focusing on how to spot innovation, understand how it will support your business and then how to document it. We will look at the different types of IP available and how to spot when you may have something that can be protected. We will use examples to show how different IP strategies may be relevant. Once an innovation has been spotted and understood, it will need to be documented. This document will need to support the tasks further along the pipeline. We will look at how best to present the details of the innovation for use by the business and external advisers.

Ben Lincoln, Partner, Potter Clarkson

Ben joined Potter Clarkson in 2013 and is part of the electronics and computing team.

An experienced patent attorney, he has drafted hundreds of patent applications in a variety of sectors from telecommunications through to green technology, and has prosecuted patent applications relating to industrial networking, computer programs, medical equipment and control systems for manufacturing.  

He also has wide experience representing clients at hearings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and UK Intellectual Property Office, in the preparation of validity and infringement opinions, the restoration of patent rights and attacking and defending patents during the EPO opposition procedure. 

Before joining Potter Clarkson, Ben worked for a large private practice firm in Birmingham. During his time there he was seconded to Ericsson to work with its in-house department on optical networks and other networking technology. 

Ben was made a partner in 2015.
