Ginraw and the main principles for assessing trademark similarity

G-Star Raw recently opposed the word mark GINRAW on the grounds of its two prior RAW trademarks for similar goods. The EU Intellectual Property Office Opposition Division found the signs to be confusingly similar as they shared the same dominant element ’raw’, the prefix ‘gin’ being descriptive of the targeted goods.
