Domain name body lifts registration limit

Brazil

The Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo - the entity responsible for the registration of domain names in Brazil - has issued new rules. Companies and individuals are now free to register as many third-level domain names as they like (eg, 'xxx.com.br' and 'xyz.com.br')

Domains are granted only to entities and individuals that are registered in the government's registry of taxpayers. Prior to the new rules, there was a limit of 10 third-level domains that could be registered under one tax number.

The new rules have not modified the restriction on the number of registrations of the same name under different unrestricted generic top-level domains (eg, 'xxx.com.br' and 'xxx.ind.br'). The registration of restricted generic top-level domains (ie, '.am.br', 'coop.br', 'edu.br', 'fm.br', gov.br', 'mil.br', 'org.br' and 'tv.br') has never been subject to this limit.
