A decision out of the blue

In Compagnie Gervais Danone v European Union Intellectual Property Office the EU General Court found a figurative trademark to be confusingly similar to the EU word trademark BLU DE SAN MIGUEL. At first sight this seems surprising, but lessons can be drawn from this decision.
