Cyrillic TLD '.бел' is launched

Belarus

The sunrise period for registration of the recently launched Cyrillic top-level domain ‘.бел’ is underway, ending on May 31 2015. From March 1 to May 31, priority has been given to trademark owners, who can register domain names matching their trademarks.

From June 1 to September 30 2015, which is the landrush period, attractive domain names will be sold through charity auctions. The general availability period starts on October 1 2015.

Registration will be available for domain names in Russian and Belarusian and, in addition to the standard Cyrillic characters, 'ў', 'і' and apostrophes will also be supported. The registration policy will be the same as that for the Latin-character extension '.by'.

On August 26 2014 the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers approved Belarus’ application for the Cyrillic country-code top-level domain extension '.бел' ('.bel' in Latin characters) in addition to the existing Latin-character extension '.by'.

The Russian extension '.рф' ('.rf' in Latin characters) was the first Cyrillic top-level domain, delegated to Russia in May 2010. Apart from Russia's and Belarus’ Cyrillic domains, the following top-level domains also exist: Macedonia’s '.мкд' ('.mkd' in Latin characters), Serbia’s '.срб' ('.srb'), Kazakhstan’s '.каз' ('.kaz'), Ukraine’s '.укр' ('.ukr') and Mongolia’s '.мон' ('.mon'). Bulgaria’s '.бг' ('.bg') will be launched in the near future.
