In Brazil, trademarks are governed by the Law onIndustrial Property (9,279/1996). The protectionof Olympic symbols and terms is provided forin the Pelé Law (9,615/1998) and, in regard tothe 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, theOlympic Act (12,035/2009) confers additionalprotection on the symbols and expressionsassociated with the games. The Olympic Act willremain in force until December 31 2016.
