Italy

With the Italian economy struggling to recover from the global slowdown, there has been no real major change or significant growth in the local market ove rthe last 12 months. A prevailing trend sees clients moving away from local trademark boutiques in favour of full-service international firms; in the meantime, home-grown ensembles are scaling back their practices. However, this is a gradual transition: even the most senior figures remain highly active and esteemed, while younger boutiques such as IP Law Galli have risen to prominence and can now compete alongside heavyweights such as Hogan Lovells and Studio Legale Bird & Bird, particularly for domestic work. Trademark attorneys and attorneys at law remain divided, with different cultures and work specialisations characterising their respective practices; we have thus ranked law firms and firms of attorneys on separate tables.
