Associate - HSM IP

Sophie Davies’s practice at HSM IP includes IP protection, enforcement and dispute resolution. She manages a team of highly skilled paralegals and oversees the full breadth of IP prosecution work, with a focus on the Caribbean, Central and Latin America and offshore jurisdictions.

Ms Davies joined HSM IP in 2015 after working as a solicitor specialising in IP litigation at King & Wood Mallesons’ London office (formerly SJ Berwin) since 2010. At HSM IP, Ms Davies’ responsibilities include IP portfolio management, advising clients on all aspects of IP law, drafting and reviewing assignments, licences and settlement agreements, and handling IP-related disputes.

Ms Davies has worked on the Cayman Islands government committee responsible for drafting new IP legislation for over two-and-a-half years. She has participated in running workshops on the implications of the new IP laws for local enforcement agencies, spoken on IP topics before the Caymanian Bar Association and regularly runs seminars at the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce.

  • “Hot Topic: Cuba and US brand owners” – Institute of Trademark Attorneys Review (September 2015).

Ms Davies’s qualifications are:

  • University of Oxford, postgraduate diploma in IP law (2011-2012);
  • BPP Law School, Legal Practice Course (2006-2007);
  • BPP Law School, graduate diploma in law (2005-2006); and
  • Cambridge University, MA (hons) and BA (hons), music (2002-2005).

Ms Davies was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 2010 and the Cayman Islands in 2015.
