Nicola Broadhurst trained at Theodore Goddard (now Addleshaws) in London and worked at Mishcon de Reya and Mundays before joining Stevens & Bolton LLP in 2011 as a commercial partner and head of the franchise team.
Ms Broadhurst is a commercial transactional lawyer specialising in franchising and licensing arrangements. Her practice has a particular emphasis on advising on international expansion through franchising – including direct unit franchising, master franchising and area development – and the licensing of trademarks and other intellectual property. She also advises on the commercial exploitation of intellectual property generally, including analysis of the various routes to market and business expansion strategies.
Ms Broadhurst speaks at numerous specialist franchise seminars and exhibitions and is a feature writer for the specialist franchise journal Franchise World, as well as contributing to other franchise and trade publications regularly. She is the firm’s designated representative for the British Franchise Association (BFA), has served on the BFA Legal Committee and Working Committee for Quality Standards for Affiliates and – since the disbanding of the Legal Committee – regularly reviews franchise agreements for accreditation purposes for the BFA. Ms Broadhurst also serves on the BFA Quality Standards Committee and represented the European Franchise Federation at a recent workshop at the European Parliament. She is a member of the American Bar Association International Trade and Distribution Committee and Franchise Forum.
Ms Broadhurst is listed as a leading lawyer and ranked in Band 1 Nationwide for franchising in Chambers UK and as a notable practitioner in franchising by the Legal 500.
