Julien Fréneaux represents and litigates before the French courts in all IP matters, including patents, trademarks, designs, copyright and unfair competition. He focuses on patent infringement and validity litigation, including appeal proceedings, before the specialist French IP courts. The cases that Mr Fréneaux handles regularly involve coordination with teams of lawyers from other jurisdictions, as well as parallel litigation proceedings in different countries, which are subject to a complex international litigation framework. Mr Fréneaux has managed many multinational patent conflicts concerning technologies such as medical devices, sports equipment and mechanical engineering. He also handles a number of fashion design infringement cases.
Mr Fréneaux is also active in licensing, technology transfer agreements and IP-related contracts. He has led and supervised teams of auditors conducting IP due diligence on the occasion of large mergers and acquisitions.
Mr Fréneaux is a graduate in patent law of the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies of the University of Strasbourg and a graduate in IP law of the University of Paris. He is officially listed as one of the IP specialists of the Paris Bar. He is a member of several IP professional associations including the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the Licensing Executives Society and the European Patent Lawyers Association. He is co-author of the French chapter of the book Interpretation of patents in Europe: applications of Article 69 EPC.
Mr Fréneaux has received numerous recommendations, including the following in the WTR 1000 (2016): “Julien Fréneaux has handled a string of headline-grabbing infringement suits in the fashion field; sports equipment and mechanical engineering are further strongholds.”
