Head of International Trademark Department - PONS IP
For over 20 years, Isabel Cortés has been actively engaged in handling all aspects of intellectual property and works with clients for protection and management of large IP portfolios in all business sectors, including pharmaceutical, energy, fashion and automobile. Her focus is on trademarks, but she also has substantial patent, designs and copyright experience.
Ms Cortés is head of the international trademark division at PONS IP. She graduated from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, specialising in European law, and obtained a master’s in intellectual property from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and a European master’s in law and economics. She was a former stagiaire in the European Commission at the Directorate-General for Competition.
Ms Cortés has particular expertise in worldwide trademark clearance, filing and prosecution, contentious registry proceedings, including handling oppositions, invalidity and cancellation actions, advising clients on filing strategies, planning and prosecuting trademarks globally, drafting settlements and coexistence agreements, and coordinating IP litigation and enforcement internationally.
Ms Cortés is the technical director for the intellectual property and new technologies master's course at the University Rey Juan Carlos in Spain and is very active in the teaching community. She is the author of numerous publications and a frequent speaker on IP law and related topics at various seminars, conferences and universities. She also provides in-house training sessions for companies in Spain and overseas.
