Partner - BomhardIP
Admitted to the Bar in Germany, Verena von Bomhard is a partner at BomhardIP in Alicante. She has extensive experience in all matters relating to the prosecution and enforcement of EU trademarks and designs, having worked in Alicante focusing on these IP protection tools since 1996. Dr von Bomhard has handled over 60 proceedings before the EU General Court and the European Court of Justice, which makes her an expert in those proceedings. She advises multinational clients on complex IP conflicts in the European Union, effective dispute settlement strategies and the protection and enforcement of non-traditional marks. Her pan-European view of trademark issues allows her to act as a one-stop shop for multi-jurisdictional trademark clearance and portfolio management in the European Union.
Dr von Bomhard has a doctorate in law from the University of Munich and edits and co-authors numerous books and articles on EU trademarks and designs; she is also a frequent speaker on these topics. She teaches European trademark law on the IP master’s programme at the Max Planck Institute and on the Magister Lucentinus IP master’s programme at the University of Alicante.
An active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), Dr von Bomhard has been on its board of directors, has co-chaired one of its annual meetings, has twice chaired its Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market Sub-committee and is chair of its Trademark Offices Practice Committee for the 2016 to 2017 term. She received the 2014 Volunteer Service Award for the Advancement of Trademark Law from INTA. She is also a member of the European Communities Trademark Association, the Pharmaceutical Trademarks Group and the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.
Apart from her native German, Dr von Bomhard is fluent in English and Spanish, and can read French and Italian.
