Managing Partner - Ballas, Pelecanos & Associates LPC
For more than 35 years George Ballas has advised major multinational and domestic clients on structuring and implementing effective anti-counterfeiting strategies. Mr Ballas is a senior and managing partner with Ballas Pelecanos & Associates LPC in Athens, and also heads the firm’s IP/IT practice group. He read law at the Universities of Athens and Paris and was admitted to the Athens Bar Association in 1972.
He is a lawyer before the Greek Supreme Court and a European patent attorney, as well as a member of the International Trademark Association. His practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property, with a particular emphasis on trademarks and passing off, as well as patent litigation, particularly involving pharmaceuticals. His diverse background includes the office of secretary general to the Greek Parliament.
His recent publications include Anti-counterfeiting: A Global Guide (Greek chapter), World Trademark Review 2008 to 2011; International Patent Litigation: Developing an Effective Strategy (Greek chapter), Globe Law and Business 2009; Intellectual Property and Antitrust (Greek chapter), Getting the Deal Through/Law Business Research Ltd 2010; Intellectual Property in Business Transactions (Greek chapter), Practical Law Company Ltd 2011 to 2012; and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights through Border Measures - Law and Practice in the EU (Greek chapter), Oxford University Press 2011.
In recognition of his abilities, Mr Ballas has been consistently listed as an expert in the IP and IT fields in various prestigious international legal directories.
