Indonesia Acemark Intellectual Property

Acemark Intellectual Property is a boutique IP firm set up in 1999 by Amir Syamsudin. Mr Syamsudin is widely known as the founder of the Amir Syamsudin & Partners Law Offices – to which the firm is affiliated – and most notably was the previous minister of law and human rights in Indonesia from 2011 to 2014. To Mr Syamsudin, the firm is the embodiment of his concern for the increasing infringement of IP rights in Indonesia. This has been reflected in the firm's philosophy to provide high-quality legal services in a prompt, responsible and reliable manner. Taking this into account, the firm has become one of the leading IP firms in Indonesia with considerable experience of working for both domestic and overseas clients – ranging from individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises to multinational corporations worldwide – and has bridged the gap between Indonesian law enforcement and its overseas client demands.

Acemark possesses extensive resources and know-how to cover a wide range of services and to handle substantial and complex cases. With a team consisting of five registered IP consultants and 50 professionals, the firm provides services in prosecution and enforcement in all aspects of intellectual property and domain names. Acemark's attorneys have the skills and insight to guide clients' interests effectively throughout the entire IP lifecycle – from initial development to successful monetisation, avoidance of competitors’ rights and, if necessary, spirited enforcement or defence in the courtroom. The firm has been entrusted by multinational companies to work in the fields of chemistry, biology, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and mechanicals.

Following 17 years of establishment, Acemark has become a fully fledged IP firm with wide-ranging specialisation in:

  • data verification;
  • search;
  • investigation;
  • watching;
  • prosecution of both contentious and non-contentious IP matters;
  • renewal;
  • anti-counterfeiting;
  • litigation;
  • licensing;
  • cautionary notices;
  • domain names; and
  • food and drug administration permits.

With dogged determination and perseverance instilled in every employee, the firm successfully caters for clients' distinctive needs and provides them with well-founded and rigorous outcomes.

The firm has successfully represented multinational clients to regain their passed-off marks through negotiations and cancellation actions, as well as taking action against infringement. Recently, Acemark won a non-use cancellation action on behalf of a Korean pharmaceutical company, and a cancellation action based on bad faith on behalf of a reputable Korean apparel company. The firm has also represented US publishers in copyright and trademark infringement cases and UK companies in patent and trademark infringement case. The firm has a high success rate in registering and opposing trademarks.

Acemark is in the top tier of IP consultancy and service and the firm has received several awards issued by IP associations. To keep up to date on IP issues in an era of rapid globalisation, the firm possesses great enthusiasm to be an innovative IP firm in Indonesia and to make continual improvements, while promoting and raising awareness of the importance of intellectual property.

The firm has grown, but the underlying commitment remains as it has always been: to care for the IP interests of clients to the highest professional standard.
