It is a pleasure to welcome you to the second edition of Anti-counterfeiting
– A Global Guide. Building on the success of the inaugural edition, Anticounterfeiting
2009 provides trademark professionals with comprehensive
guidance on anti-counterfeiting laws, procedures and strategies in key
jurisdictions across the globe. Written by leading anti-counterfeiting
experts, Anti-counterfeiting 2009 allows for easy international comparison
of vital aspects of this essential area of rights protection.
Like its predecessor, this edition includes two regional special focus
chapters, which examine trends in the European Union and Sub-Saharan
Africa. New for this year are detailed chapters offering insight into specific
aspects of the fight against counterfeiting online and in the fashion industry.
Anti-counterfeiting 2009 does not seek to offer specific legal advice and
should not be read as though it does. However, the contributors to the book
raise a number of critical points that IP rights owners and their advisers
should take into consideration when forming a detailed international anticounterfeiting
strategy.
To ensure the highest possible quality, only those firms and
organizations with expertise in the field of anti-counterfeiting were invited
to contribute. My thanks go to all those who submitted chapters for their
support for this important project. I would also like to thank the Anti-
Counterfeiting Group, the International Anti-counterfeiting Coalition and
the World Customs Organization for all their assistance during the
production of Anti-counterfeiting 2009.
