Following the launch of the “Opinions on Implementing the Outline of the National Intellectual Property Strategies to Vigorously Promote the Implementation of Trademark Strategies” in June 2009, in a period of almost seven years the number of annual trademark applications filed with the China Trademark Office (CTMO) increased from 0.83 million to 3.69 million, and the number of registered trademarks increased from 3 million to 12.93 million at the end of 2016. The number of trademark applications in the first 11 months of 2017 reached a staggering 5.11 million.
