Trademark Manager - Henry Goh & Co Sdn Bhd
Eng Leong Lim is a legally qualified and fully trained lawyer. After being called to the High Court of Malaya, he commenced legal practice in intellectual property with a leading law firm. In 2006, he joined Henry Goh as the firm’s in-house legal counsel.
In his dual role as a registered trademark agent and legal counsel, Mr Lim has expertise which includes devising and implementing trademark protection strategies as well as managing extensive trademark portfolios for myriad domestic and foreign clients from different industries. He is adept in trademark prosecution, administrative hearings and opposition proceedings. In tandem with external solicitors, he has coordinated successful enforcement and defence of clients’ IP rights at all levels of the Malaysian court system, including negotiations for amicable settlement and coexistence of rights.
In recognition of his excellent service, Mr Lim was promoted to the position of trademark manager in 2015. In this managerial role and as a business development strategist, he develops and implements corporate policies in order to ensure that the firm remains one of the leading IP agencies in the country. This position works in tandem with his legal counsel post as Mr Lim continues to share his knowledge in various forums such as in-house training for staff and seminars for the public. In addition, he is part of the Henry Goh newsletter editorial team and a frequent contributor to international IP publications.
He is also a qualified registered patent and industrial design agent as well as a registered geographical indication agent. Mr Lim was instrumental in the filing of the first copyright notification and geographical indication registration in Malaysia for the firm. He also has experience in Singapore trademark practice, having completed work experience at the firm’s office there.
Mr Lim is a member of the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association, the International Trademark Association and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association, and is an alumnus of the Japan Patent Office Intellectual Property Rights Training (class of 2012).
