The EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is facing a busy time, dealing with new legislation and the practical implications of this. According to the Trademark Implementing Regulation and the Delegated Regulation, some aspects of the Amending EU Trademark Regulation (such as the new EU Certification mark) will take effect on October 1 2017. In addition, the EUIPO published Decision EX-17-5 of the Executive Director concerning communications by electronic means on August 16 2017, which clarifies the use of electronic communications with the EUIPO, in particular the ‘user area’.
